On November 18, Amazon Services, LLC closed on 143 acres of land off State Road 82 with a price tag of $66.5 million.
The new distribution center will feature first-of-it’s-kind technology, like robotic sorting and packing. The 750,000 square foot space will fulfill Amazon orders for the entire southeastern U.S. and beyond. At nearly twice the size of Fort Myers’ Edison Mall, it will be the largest standalone industrial building in Lee County history. Even with an army of robots running the show, Amazon officials said the new distribution center will create at least 1,000 jobs with an average pay rate of $22 per hour.
After completion in 2027, the taxable value of the property will rise from the current $10 million to about $500 million, considerably boosting Lee County’s tax revenue.
The address of the property is 10631 State Road 82, about 1 mile east of I-75.
Amazon already has one distribution center off of Alico Road in Fort Myers. The fact that they’ve doubled-down with a second facility in our market indicates a couple of things:
- a real estate market so healthy that a user like Amazon is comfortable parking $1 billion total here
- a rise in consumer demand in our area
Residential, out-of-state buyers consider factors like this when deciding what area to move to. This new Amazon facility is one of many exciting projects in southwest Florida that help keep our residential real estate market on the up-and-up.
