Collier County has approved a $7.59 million design contract for the proposed Livingston Road flyover for Immokalee Road, moving the long-discussed North Naples traffic project into its next phase.

What Is Being Proposed?

The current concept includes a four-lane bridge carrying Livingston Road over Immokalee Road. Drivers continuing north or south on Livingston Road would cross above the intersection, while turning traffic would remain at ground level.

The preliminary plan also includes expanded turn lanes, roadway resurfacing, traffic signals and landscaped areas. Some details remain subject to change during the design process.

Why Is the Flyover Needed?

If you’ve been anywhere near this intersection at rush hour, you probably know why.

Livingston Road and Immokalee Road is one of North Naples’ busiest intersections, with frequent backups during rush hour, especially during our busy winter season.

The flyover is intended to separate major traffic movements, reduce delays and improve travel-time reliability. Immokalee Road is also an important east-west corridor and designated evacuation route.

What Happens Next?

The approved contract with DRMP, Inc. covers engineering and design—not construction. Engineers will now refine the roadway layout, drainage, utility relocations, turn lanes and plans for maintaining traffic during construction.

The overall project has been conceptually estimated at approximately $69.6 million, although the cost could change as plans are finalized. A construction start date has not yet been announced.
