Crunch Bonita Springs Closes
Bonita Springs residents are seeing a major shakeup in their local fitness scene this month. Crunch Bonita Springs, a longtime staple on Bonita Beach Road, has officially announced its closure after choosing not to renew its lease. The gym, known for its affordable memberships and energetic vibe, closed its doors this week. All members of Crunch Bonita Springs have had their memberships transferred automatically to Smash Fitness.
The news came as a surprise to many members, some of whom learned about the decision through in-gym notices. According to comments from gym-goers and community members online, the decision not to renew the lease stemmed from unresolved issues with the propertyโs landlord. While Crunch has other locations in Southwest Florida, the closure of the Bonita Springs location leaves a noticeable gap in the areaโs fitness offeringsโespecially for those who favored its convenient location and budget-friendly pricing.
But as one chapter closes, another is already beginning to take shape.
Athletica Bonita Springs Prepares to Open
Just a few blocks away, in the former LA Fitness/Esporta space at Springs Plaza, a new fitness concept is moving in. Athletica Health & Fitness is set to open later this year, bringing a modern, upscale gym experience to Bonita Springs. With renovations already underway, Athletica is expected to launch sometime this fall.
Athletica is positioning itself as a full-service health and wellness destination. The new facility will offer brand-new strength and cardio equipment, a basketball court, indoor pickleball courts, a wide variety of group fitness classes, personal training, a smoothie and juice bar, and even massage lounges and child care services. The goal is to deliver more than just a place to lift weightsโAthletica wants to be a wellness hub where members can work out, recover, refuel, and socialize, all under one roof.
This new addition is particularly exciting given the size and visibility of the space itโs moving into. Springs Plaza sits at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Bonita Beach Road, one of the areaโs busiest corridors, making it a high-traffic location with easy access for commuters and residents alike.
While the loss of Crunch will leave a temporary void, Athleticaโs arrival offers an exciting new option for fitness enthusiasts in Bonita Springs. The transition also reflects a larger trend in the fitness industry, as more gyms evolve to meet growing demand for lifestyle-focused amenities, flexible programming, and elevated experiences.
If youโre a former Crunch member wondering whatโs next, Athletica might be worth the wait. But in the meantime, there are other local options like Smash Fitness, Planet Fitness, and a number of boutique training studios to tide you over until doors open this fall.
