The Florida Department of Transportation recently began the planning phase of their I-75 South Corridor Master Plan. The South Corridor runs from Collier Boulevard in East Naples all the way up to Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers.
The goal of the planning phase is to examine the entire corridor, find any deficiencies, and recommend timelines for improvements through 2045. Interchanges such as Alico Road in Fort Myers and Immokalee Road in Naples will reach max capacity and need to be improved as soon as 2025.
According to the plan, an additional driving lane and an additional auxiliary lane will be added in both directions from Corkscrew Road in Estero to Golden Gate Parkway in Naples, for a total of 5 lanes each way. From Corkscrew Road north to Palm Beach Boulevard, FDOT is proposing adding “manage” lanes, which will create a separation between short commuters and longer-distance drivers.
Although not part of the South Corridor, FDOT is considering improving the interchange at Everglades Boulevard. Also not included in the master plan is the possibility of adding an interchange at Vanderbilt Beach Road in North Naples.
