SWFL Housing Market Report: Number of Sales at 4-Year High

  • Reading time:2 mins read

With a massive demand for housing, Southwest Florida is continuing to grow. In the past 4 years, an estimated 50,000 people moved to Lee and Collier County’s, and the majority of these new residents came from another state. From sunshine-seeking retirees, to families searching for lower taxes, everyone is heading for Florida. Low interest rates are only fueling this expansive growth.

For this reason, the number of home sales throughout Southwest Florida is at a 4-year high. We’ve seen consistent growth year over year, and no one is expecting that to slow down in 2020.

In terms of total sales, our busiest month here in Southwest Florida is May. In May of 2016, we saw a total of 1,897 home sales. In May of 2017, that number grew to 2,159. By 2019, May saw a total of 2,419 sales. That’s an average of over 10% growth per year!

New construction home sales have also skyrocketed in recent years. In 2016, only 1,455 new homes were built and sold across Southwest Florida. By 2018, that number grew to 2,653, and in 2019, over 3,100 new homes were built and sold in our region!
