Joseph & Elizabeth McSwain

The McSwain Home is the oldest home on Old 41 Road.

The McSwains originally settled in the area in 1901, when Bonita Springs was just a small fishing village, called Survey. The couple had eight children together– four sons and four daughters.

Mary Loula & J.W. Liles

In 1905, their oldest daughter, Mary Loula, married Bonita Springs pioneer, J.W. Liles. Around 1913, the McSwain’s original home was swept away in a flood, and in 1915, the home we see today was constructed.

Built entirely of Southern Pine Lumber, the McSwain Home has withstood several major hurricanes since its construction.

Later, in the 1970s, the home was sold to Hudon and Alice Humphries, where they resided for the next forty years. In 2011, the Humphries estate gifted the home to the Bonita Springs Historical Society.

The Historical Society recently completed renovations on the McSwain Home. Check out the progress photos below.
