On August 1, 2019, Collier County purchased the 167-acre Golden Gate Country Club for $29 million. Since then, many proposals have come and go for the property, located on the East side of Golden Gate City, right off Collier Boulevard.
Last January, BigShots Golf received County approval to build on the property. In October of 2019, Bigshots backed out of the deal, and it was back to the drawing board for County Commissioners.
Then, in March of 2021, Bigshots Golf re-entered the deal and recently received 4-1 approval again from Commissioners.
Owned by ClubCorp, BigShots Golf will include a 12-hole course, along with a high-tech driving range. The driving range will feature 2 floors and 60 bays to hit from. They will also have a Doppler ball tracker to dial in your swing.
As stated by ClubCorp in March, legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus will be the mastermind designing the 12-hole course. Nicklaus has won a record-breaking 18 major golf championships, and is a renowned golf course designer.
According the their lease agreement with the County, Collier residents will receive a 40% discount on the 12-hole course’s green fees.
In addition to the driving range and 12-hole course, a 3,000 square foot ‘The First Tee’ facility will also be constructed on the property. The First Tee is an incredible youth golf program which teaches life skills and core values, all while helping kids hone-in on their golf skills.
ClubCorp CEO David Pillsbury feels the combination of the BigShots Golf course and The First Tee program is a rare dynamic that could be marketed across the entire nation.
