Not Your Grandmother’s Wallpaper
When most people think of wallpaper, it probably brings back memories of tacky stripes or gaudy florals that often times matched the pattern on the living room sofa. Luckily, wallpaper is not what it used to be. This easy, affordable option has made a huge come back in the past few years.
One thing that hasn’t changed is that we still love florals-we have just learned how to rock them the right way! Floral and botanical prints are trending all over the country. In coastal areas like Southwest Florida, more tropical patterns featuring palm leaves have become increasingly popular.
The way we use wallpaper has also changed. We have learned from our mistakes and have left the days of covering entire rooms in extravagant patterns behind us. Nowadays, patterned wallpapers are being used as accent walls. Recently, some have even ventured to the fifth wall-the ceiling! Another popular trend that we are seeing is wallpaper in the bathroom, which is the one room you can still get away with wallpapering entirely.

Dark & Dreamy Bedrooms
We have been seeing this trend more and more in new and renovated homes in the area, and personally, we love it! In some homes, the entire room is painted a dark color, while other homeowners have chosen a dark hue as a single accent wall. We have seen a lot of darker greys in bedrooms but the most common color is navy blue. In fact, Sherwin Williams 2020 Color of the Year is “Naval” (pictured above).
Added bonus: According to sleep.org, the best color to help you fall asleep is blue, followed closely by grays. That means that this trendy room reno might just help you sleep better!

Dark and Light Woods, But NOT In Between
Both dark and light wood floors are trending in homes but the shades in between have seemed to fizzle away. Warmer, redder woods have become less common while greys and browns have taken their place. In Florida, lighter woods seem to be a bit more common. We have seen a lot of gray, “greige” and whitewashed floors in newer and renovated homes lately.
Though hardwood is trending, a lot of people are keeping the look, but opting for cheaper options. Laminate wood floors have become increasingly popular among those who are renovating on a budget. Porcelain tiles that resemble wood planks are also trending. Though this option is sometimes equally as costly, it can be a more durable option that requires less maintenance.

Curvey Comfort
Though geometric accent pieces are becoming pretty popular, when it comes to furniture, we’re seeing less and less harsh lines. Not only does curved furniture look and feel more comfortable, but it can also give a room a subtle retro twist.

Back to Nature
We are seeing nature being incorporated into the home in a few different ways. Organic shapes and raw materials in decor are becoming really popular. For example, the natural slab coffee table pictured above. We have also noticed plastic and synthetic materials being replaced with wood, leather, and linens. More obviously, we have seen a lot of greenery being brought into the home. House plants can really make a room feel fresh and lively!
