The City of Bonita Springs recently approved a plan to overhaul West Terry Street. With so many Bonita Springs Middle School students using the road to bike and walk to school, the plan primarily focuses on pedestrian safety.
The $4 million renovation will span from Pine Street to the East to the Bonita Springs Fire Station 25 to the West. Plans include construction of a 12-foot wide pedestrian path, as well as widening the street and existing bike lanes. In addition to the 12-foot wide path, the new bike lanes, on both sides of the street, will each be 5 feet wide with a 2-foot buffer. Open ditches will be replaced with underground piping to make more room for the widened street.
Prep work will begin in November, while FPL and Bonita Springs Utilities adjust power lines and water/sewer systems for the project. By December, construction will be in full swing. The contractor, Pavement Maintenance, LLC, expects the job to be completed by late summer, 2020.
