UPDATE: Buc-ee’s spokesperson, Jeff Nadalo, recently announced that the company has called off plans for their 130-pump gas station in Fort Myers.

September 1, 2021 According to Nadalo, the 159-acre property off of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard would have been difficult for travelers to get to. I-75 drivers would need to cross traffic to pull in. Drivers coming from Downtown Fort Myers would need to make a U-turn, a half-mile past Buc-ee’s.

There are unconfirmed rumors that Buc-ee’s is now considering a location off of Tucker’s Grade in Charlotte County.

February 28, 2019  After being announced in August of 2017, the planned Buc-ee’s gas station in Fort Myers is gearing up for ground-breaking.

This giant gas station will be the first of its kind in Southwest Florida. The convenience store inside will total 53,000 square feet with “bathrooms as big as Texas–” where the company was founded. The monstrosity will also feature 5 quick-bite restaurants (each 10,000 square feet) and 120 fuel pumps.

The new Buc-ee’s will be situated on a 159-acre lot at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and I-75 interchange.

From the lot size to the building size, the new gas station will be roughly 37 times the size of it’s closest competitor, Racetrack. Racetrack’s stores are generally about 6,000 square feet, with an average lot size of 2.5 acres.

There is currently an empty street leading to the 159-acre lot, named “Bucee Boulevard.” The company has also reserved the names, “Bucee Beaver Way” and “Nugget Lane” for the other streets planned on the lot.

Buc-ee’s currently operates at 34 locations, 33 of which are in Texas. 3 new stores are being planned in Florida, as well as several in Texas and 1 in Alabama.

The company is currently in the process of obtaining a few remaining permits. The contractor handling the job said that, once all permits are obtained and the ground breaking takes place, construction should take about 12 months.
