If you have not heard of Yonutz yet, there is a good chance you will soon.
The donut and ice cream concept has gone viral online for its wildly over the top desserts, especially its signature Smashed Donuts. Even if you have never seen one on social media, just know this is not your average stop for a glazed donut.
Yonutz Donuts and Ice Cream is now open at The Promenade at Bonita Bay, directly across from DeRomo’s, and naturally, I had to bring the family over to see what all the hype was about.
Spoiler alert, come hungry.
What’s a Yonut?
Yonutz is part donut shop, part ice cream shop, and part, “how can we possibly make this dessert even more excessive?”
They serve traditional donuts, mini donuts, ice cream and milkshakes, but the creation that really put Yonutz on the map is the Smashed Donut.
A donut is sliced open, filled with ice cream, pressed together warm and then loaded with toppings. The concept has become a huge hit online, and Yonutz has also earned multiple Dessert Wars titles for its creations.
So yes, they are ridiculous, and that is also kind of the point.
I Had to Try the Nutella Crunch
I went straight for the Nutella Crunch Smashed Donut, because if I am already committing to a donut stuffed with ice cream, I am clearly not the person who is going to suddenly show restraint.
This one is made with cookie dough ice cream, Oreo pieces, butter crunch and plenty of Nutella, all sandwiched inside a warm donut.
I expected it to be good, but the warm donut and cold ice cream together really sold me. Then you add the Nutella, Oreo and crunch on top, and somehow all of those flavors and textures just work together.
It is rich, messy and definitely not something you eat gracefully, but I would order it again without hesitation.
My husband, JP, went for the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup milkshake, which came topped with a mini maple donut.
Because apparently the milkshake itself was not enough.
Our daughter chose the Chocolate Pie Stuffed Donut, which felt extremely on brand for her.
Needless to say, nobody left disappointed.
You Can Create Your Own Smashed Donut Too
Onefun thing about Yonutz is that you are not locked into one of their signature combinations.
They have plenty of Smashed Donut creations to choose from, but you can also build your own by choosing the ice cream you want inside.
So if the full Nutella, Oreo, cookie dough situation feels like a little much, you can absolutely keep it simpler.
They also have big donuts, mini donuts, regular ice cream and some seriously over the top milkshakes, so there is plenty to choose from even if you are not ready to tackle a full Smashed Donut.
And yes, Yonutz Bonita Springs is on DoorDash, which feels like dangerous information to spread.
Is Yonutz Worth a Stop?
It may not be a place you frequent often, if you have any willpower, but I think Yonutz Bonita Springs is a really fun addition to The Promenade.
It is the kind of place that works for a family outing, an after-dinner treat, a stop with the grandkids, or one of those days when a normal dessert just isn’t going to cut it.
