One of Bonita Springs’ most beloved sandwich shops is officially back open. After months of closure, Stan’s Super Subs has reopened its doors under new owner Kym Grupi – and longtime fans are already lining up for a taste of nostalgia.
For Grupi, this moment has been more than a decade in the making. After working as a manager for the former owners, she spent the last 12 years dreaming about one day owning the iconic sub shop herself. Today, that dream became reality as she officially welcomed customers back through the doors of the longtime Bonita Springs staple.
The Story Behind Stan’s
Stan’s Super Subs first opened in 1972 by a man named Harry. According to longtime local lore, Harry originally avoided naming the shop after himself because, as the joke went, nobody wanted a “hairy sub.” Instead, he borrowed the name from his uncle’s sub shop in New Jersey. The original storefront was located across the street before moving to its current location just a few years later. Harry and his wife, Jo, quickly built a loyal following thanks to their homemade subs and welcoming atmosphere. For decades, Stan’s became more than just a sandwich shop – it became part of growing up in Bonita Springs.
A Highly Anticipated Reopening
After Harry passed away in 2003, the business changed hands several times. Through every transition, however, locals continued to hold onto deep affection for the longtime eatery. That’s why the reopening has generated so much excitement throughout the community. For months, many residents wondered if the beloved shop would ever reopen. Social media posts frequently asked for updates, longtime customers shared memories of their favorite sandwiches, and locals expressed how much they missed having Stan’s in town.
Now, they finally have it back. One thing customers will notice immediately is that Grupi has stayed true to what made Stan’s special in the first place. The menu remains almost identical to what customers remember from decades ago, preserving the old-school sub shop experience that generations of Bonita residents grew up with.

In a region changing as quickly as Southwest Florida, longtime local institutions like Stan’s carry a special kind of significance. They serve as reminders of old Bonita Springs the small-town community where families gathered after Little League games, locals knew each other by name, and favorite lunch spots became lifelong traditions. Now, thanks to a local owner who understands exactly what Stan’s means to the community, that tradition continues.
For many Bonitians, Stan’s Super Subs reopening isn’t just about sandwiches. It’s about preserving a piece of local history.
