According to longtime local lore, Harry originally avoided naming the shop after himself because, as the joke went, nobody wanted a “hairy sub.” Instead, he borrowed the name from his uncle’s sub shop in New Jersey. The original storefront was located across the street before moving to its current location just a few years later. Harry and his wife, Jo, quickly built a loyal following thanks to their homemade subs and welcoming atmosphere. For decades, Stan’s became more than just a sandwich shop – it became part of growing up in Bonita Springs.

After Harry passed away in 2003, the business changed hands several times. Through every transition, however, locals continued to hold onto deep affection for the longtime eatery.
