Creating Community Through Art: Summer’s Art Studio & Gallery Opening Soon in Bonita Springs

  • Reading time:4 mins read

Downtown Bonita Springs is about to welcome something truly special.

Summer’s Art Studio & Gallery is coming soon to the heart of downtown, bringing a vibrant new creative space designed to be much more than a traditional art gallery. Founded by Bonita Springs–born artist Summer DeSalvo, this new studio is being built as a place to create, connect, and give back to the community that has supported her work for years.

Meet the Artist: Summer DeSalvo

Summer DeSalvo has been a vibrant presence in the Southwest Florida art scene for years. Born and raised in Bonita Springs, she discovered early on that art wasn’t just a career; it was a way to connect with others and help people heal. She studied Illustration & Design at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale before returning to the region to paint large-scale murals, commercial projects, and public art that reflects community pride and resilience.

Among her notable projects, Summer was one of the artists behind the transformational mural on the 35-foot elevator shaft in Times Square on Fort Myers Beach, a public art piece created to uplift spirits and celebrate the area’s rebirth after Hurricane Ian.

Her work is known for its bold color, emotional resonance, and community-focused themes – a perfect foundation for the mission behind Summer’s Art Studio & Gallery.

Summer’s Art Studio & Gallery

Once open, Summer’s Art Studio & Gallery will offer a variety of public art classes, including painting, woodworking, and crafting, creating opportunities for both beginners and experienced creatives to grow their skills.

The gallery itself will be deeply rooted in local talent.

Half of the space will showcase other artists from Bonita Springs and throughout Southwest Florida. Emerging artists – including young creatives looking to expand their passion and gain exposure – will also have dedicated space to display their work in a professional setting.

Already, several local artists have committed to exhibiting their pieces, reinforcing the studio’s mission to spotlight local artwork in Bonita Springs.

A Gallery With a Greater Purpose

What truly sets Summer’s Art Studio & Gallery apart is its heart.

In partnership with her newly launched nonprofit, a portion of gallery sales will go directly toward funding art supplies and creative programs for orphans, young girls and others in need. The mission is centered on using art as a tool for healing, connection, and empowerment.

Through this initiative, the studio plans to provide:

  • Free art supplies for those experiencing hardship

  • Free classes in a safe, welcoming environment

  • Opportunities for young creatives to grow, learn, and feel supported

This isn’t just an art studio, it’s a future community hub designed to uplift and inspire.

A Creative Addition to Downtown Bonita Springs

Summer’s Art Studio and Gallery will offer a variety of classes to the public, including illustration, painting, woodworking and crafting for all ages. The studio even has a private kids room for little ones to get creative! In addition to classes and workshops, the space will also host vendor markets and other community-centered events that bring people together.

As downtown Bonita Springs continues to evolve, this upcoming art studio and gallery will add another meaningful layer of creativity and connection to the growing culture.

While an official opening date has not yet been announced, excitement is already building.
