Bonita Springs Considers Selling ‘Bamboo Village’ Property

  • Reading time:2 mins read

The Bamboo Village property is located in downtown Bonita Springs, across from the Everglades Wonder Gardens and Riverside Park. The property spans across the North and South sides of the Imperial River, with an old walking bridge over the water.

The empty lot used to be a 55+ community, until being sold in the 70s. After that, it was a low-income mobile home park. In the mid-90s, the City of Bonita Springs bought the mobile home park, and the lot has sat vacant ever since.

At a recent meeting, the Bonita Springs City Council expressed interest in selling the property.

According to Mayor Peter Simmons, the city does not want to “property-bank.” This is the practice of holding on to unused land with no intention of building or selling.

The city of Bonita Springs has a very particular idea of what they want the downtown area to look like. If the Bamboo Village property does go up for sale, Councilman Mike Gibson stated that the city would “put out a vision with aspects that they would like to see, and ask (developers) to bring forward their plans.”
