Bri Eats: Oumi Sushi Brings Seriously Fresh Sushi to Fort Myers

Oumi Sushi Fort Myers

If you’re particular about your sushi, Oumi Sushi in Fort Myers belongs on your list. We recently stopped in for dinner, and everything we tried—from beautifully presented specialty rolls to simple pieces of nigiri—tasted incredibly fresh. Add in a chic, moody atmosphere and some peach sake, and you have all the makings of a great sushi night.

Oumi Sushi opened in June, during Southwest Florida’s quieter summer months, so it may have slipped under your radar. After our meal, I’d say it’s well worth putting on your SWFL dining list.

Inside, electric-blue lighting, coral-colored booths and sculptural, wave-shaped pendant lights give the dining room a moody, modern feel. Dark marble-look surfaces and colorful wall art round out the space. It’s a fun setting for settling into a booth, sipping sake and ordering a little more sushi than you originally planned.

We started with the hamachi serrano and spicy tuna crispy rice. The yellowtail arrived fanned around a vivid pink orchid, topped with thin pepper slices, dark tobiko and delicate microgreens. Finished with ponzu, it was as fresh and delicious as it was pretty. The crispy rice, topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce and spicy mayo, was another delicious start.

Our Oumi roll brought the most dramatic entrance: a long platter with a decorative dry ice feature sending mist cascading around the sushi. A lobster tail shell added to the display, while shrimp, avocado, crispy toppings and drizzled sauces made the roll itself equally eye-catching. With lobster tail, shrimp tempura and spicy krab inside, this was absolutely a “phone eats first” moment—and the food lived up to the presentation.

The Out of Control roll arrived arranged around an arching branch of pink blossoms. This deep-fried roll combines spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail, finished with sauces, tobiko, scallions and crunch. Golden edges, colorful toppings and that floral centerpiece made it another memorable plate.

The Cape Coral maki was beautifully simple, with cucumber-wrapped rounds of tuna, salmon and yellowtail arranged around a flower-shaped bowl of ponzu. Orange tobiko and scallions topped each piece, letting the colors of the fish stand out. Everything we tried tasted wonderfully fresh.

That freshness was also a big part of our conversation with the owner. He told us he prioritizes sourcing quality fish from regions he trusts, with much of his fish coming from France. He also regularly brings in special selections that don’t appear on the everyday menu.

We got to try branzino and salmon belly nigiri, individual pieces of fish served over rice, and both were so good. Those simple bites were a highlight of the evening. My advice: ask what special fish they have available when you visit.

We rounded out dinner with peach sake, and left with plenty of reasons to return. Oumi’s menu also includes hibachi, noodles and other Japanese favorites, but we happily devoted this visit to sushi.

If you’re looking for a new date-night spot or an excuse to gather your sushi-loving friends, give Oumi Sushi a try. This summer newcomer is well worth getting to know.
