Towards the end of 2018, the owners of Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club Partnered with The Athens Group– an Arizona-based real estate development firm. Together, their plan is to completely demolish and rebuilt the beachfront hotel. 

On March 13th, the City Planning Board unanimously approved the project, and on April 17th, City Council did the same.

The Watkins family, who has owned the property for decades, will continue to run the hotel and golf club through the 2020-2021 season. At this point, ownership will transfer to The Athens Group, who will wrap up all the permitting.

Construction is expected to begin in 2021. The developer is hoping to have all facilities opened up again by 2023.
