Open Container Bonita Springs: An Innovative New Downtown Dining Project

Something a little different is taking shape next to Ceremony Brewing. Open Container Bonita Springs, a shipping container development currently under construction on Tennessee Street, is bringing a new look to a small corner of downtown.

If you’ve been wondering what’s going up on the site, we now have more details about the dining space being marketed there—and the creative idea behind it.

What Is Open Container Bonita Springs?

Located at 27781 Tennessee Street, just off Old 41, Open Container is being marketed as a restaurant and bar opportunity with outdoor dining and a courtyard. The listing describes 3,423 square feet encompassing the main restaurant and exterior areas, plus two food truck pads available separately. It also advertises restaurant use with liquor permitted.

The listing does not identify a restaurant operator or food truck lineup, so the specific food and drinks remain something to watch for.

Why Shipping Containers?

The design grew out of the property’s unusual shape. The long, narrow shape of shipping containers offered a way to work with a parcel that was difficult to accommodate with a conventional building layout.

That early proposal envisioned roughly 12 to 14 containers. While that number reflects the original concept rather than a verified final construction count, it offers a glimpse into how the project began.

For a downtown with so much personality, the approach feels fitting: a compact space with a design people will recognize.

A Broader Vision for the Site

As we shared in our earlier coverage, the proposed development extended beyond dining. Plans included two small residential units with storage, a main building with restaurant, bar, office and storage uses, two open-air pavilions, and two vendor pads.

The earlier design also called for preserving some of the shipping containers’ original colors and markings, alongside murals inspired by Old Florida and vintage postcards. Those were proposed design elements; the finished appearance will become clearer as construction progresses.

Our April downtown construction update documented the cleared site and early groundwork. Now, with construction underway and the space advertised under the Open Container name, there’s another reason to keep an eye on this stretch of Tennessee Street.

When Will Open Container Bonita Springs Open?

A confirmed public opening date has not been established in the sources reviewed. LoopNet lists October 15, 2026 as lease availability, which should not be treated as a grand opening announcement.

Our April update carried an estimated completion of early 2027. With different milestones appearing in the available information, we’re awaiting a confirmed opening timeline.

We’ll be watching to see who brings the dining concept to life. Join our newsletter for more local openings, downtown updates, and things to do around Southwest Florida!
