The Riverside Park renovations in Bonita Springs are officially moving forward, with construction fencing now up around the park and work beginning on-site.
This marks a major milestone following the original proposal approved by City Council in September 2024, which allocated funding for the final design, permitting, and construction of improvements to the downtown park.
From Proposal to Construction
The Riverside Park renovations were initially proposed to address heavy wear and tear on the park, especially the event lawn, which has struggled to withstand consistent foot traffic from daily use and large community events.
Now, those plans are becoming a reality.
Construction officially entered its next phase in April 2026, and the park is now closed to the public as work gets underway. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.
What’s Changing at Riverside Park
Updated plans and conceptual renderings show a redesigned park that balances event functionality with the natural character of the space.
Key features of the Riverside Park renovations include:
- A new synthetic turf event lawn designed to better handle high traffic
- A permanent performance stage and bandshell improvements
- Expanded paved seating areas and shaded gathering spaces
- Wider walkways to accommodate vendors and improve flow during events
- Additional parking, bike racks, and pedestrian connectivity
- Preservation of key elements like existing live oaks, memorial trees, and public art
- Enhanced veterans memorial and flag pole areas
- Future connections to surrounding downtown assets like Depot Park and the artist cottages
Temporary Closure With One Big Exception
As construction continues, Riverside Park will remain closed to the public. However, there will be a temporary reopening for one of Bonita Springs’ most anticipated events.
The park is scheduled to host Star Spangled Bonita on July 4th before closing again to continue construction.
What This Means for Downtown Bonita Springs
The Riverside Park renovations are part of a broader effort to enhance downtown Bonita Springs as a destination for events, community gatherings, and everyday use.
While the temporary closure may be an adjustment for residents and regular visitors, the long-term goal is clear: a more functional, event-ready, and visually cohesive public space that supports the city’s continued growth while maintaining the charm that makes it special.
