After years of hard work, Chris and Jennie Gutierrez have officially opened Swamp Cat Brewing in Downtown Fort Myers!

The Story Behind Swamp Cat Brewing

Chris Gutierrez served for 27 years in the United States Navy. As a retired Surface Warfare Officer, he acquainted himself with beer styles and brew techniques across the world, which only deepened his love of beer. While stateside, he loved homebrewing and spent every Father’s Day at a brewery. As his passion for brewing grew, the idea of a “someday” brewery lingered in his mind. His wife, Jennie, and his daughters always supported his dream, and entertained countless logo and name ideas for his “Someday” brewery. Until, of course, they decided on Swamp Cat Brewing.

Chris and Jennie always pictured their first location as a building that needed some TLC to bring it back to life. They found a small church building on the corner of Fowler & MLK that they thought would make a perfect home for Swamp Cat. They asked if it was available, and to their surprise, it was!

Chris and Jennie spent 2024 renovating the 1953 building. They replaced windows, repaired a leaking roof, and removed a drop ceiling that covered the beautiful, original beams of the church. What an incredible find!

The brewery has partnered with a brand-new Latin Fusion caterer who will now have a permanent spot inside Swamp Cat Brewing. La Playa 787 offers Latin favorites like stuffed tostones, empanadillas, ceviche, arepas, tacos, and much more.

The brewery quietly opened for business this week and is hosting an official opening event Friday, March 28th, from 11 AM to 10 PM.ย  We encourage the community to show this new SWFL business some support by kicking back with a cold one this weekend at Swamp Cat Brewing! Check out their beer list below!
