Escondido Lounge is getting ready to quietly open it’s hidden door in Downtown Fort Myers.
In true speakeasy fashion, you will not stumble upon this new cocktail lounge while strolling around Downtown Fort Myers. To find Escondido Lounge, you need directions from an insider.
To enter the speakeasy, head down Hendry Street, enter Taco Works, and head to the unsuspecting door in the back of the quick-casual restaurant. Open the door and you will step back in time to the prohibition era, right in the middle of historic Downtown Fort Myers.
Escondido Lounge is located in the historic Richards building which was built in 1923 by R.Q. Richards. The building was originally a pharmacy with a soda fountain that was visited by Thomas Edison, Connie Mack, Ty Cobb, and other notable names. The owners of this new speakeasy have decided to play on the history of the building and pay homage to some local icons by adding nameplates around the bar and naming drinks after them. The drink list has not yet been released, but if they taste as good as they look, we are in for a treat.
This secret cocktail lounge is dimly lit with red lights that accentuate the intimate vibe. On the first floor, you’ll be greeted by a stunning bar, a vintage chandelier, and a cozy safari-themed lounge area. Upstairs you will find the R.Q. Richards lounge, outfitted with vintage furnishings and antiques like a CRT TV and a record player. The second floor will also feature a piano with a glass bottom where pianists will perform some smooth tunes while you enjoy your craft cocktails.
Escondido Lounge is set to open on November 20th, but keep it on the down low.
