Cinco De Mayo commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Unfortunately, the French defeated the Mexican army later during the Second Battle of Puebla and occupied Mexico City. Following the Civil War, America began lending money and weapons to the Mexican liberals. This helped defeat France and Mexican Conservatives. In 1866, Napoleon III withdrew troops from Mexico.
Cinco De Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican-American culture. Each year, we celebrate with festivals, great music, fantastic food, and maybe a few beers or cocktails! Fun Fact: Cinco De Mayo generates beer sales on par with the Super Bowl!
