Damaged Beach Landmarks Selling For Record Prices

  • Reading time:3 mins read

After suffering devastating damage from Hurricane Ian, several coastal landmarks have sold for record prices, others are currently pending, and many more are actively listed for sale.

Big Hickory Waterfront Grille & Marina

One of Bonita Springs’ landmark restaurants, the Big Hickory Waterfront Grille and Marina has operated in the same location since the early 1980s. The owners were planning on rebuilding after the hurricane, but the City of Bonita Springs had different plans, and would not permit rebuilding without raising the entire structure. The estimated cost to elevate the building was around $5 million, so the owners decided to sell instead.

For years, the Bonita Springs Fire Department has leased a building on the property as a substation. After some negotiating, the Fire Department just closed on the entire property for $6 million.

Shucker’s On The Beach & The Cottage Bar

Schucker’s was situated right on the beach, just north of the Lani Kai. After operating for over 100 years, the oldest bar and restaurant on Fort Myers Beach is no longer. The beachfront bar was essentially leveled by Hurricane Ian, and the property was listed for sale shortly after.

The vacant parcel was listed at $16 million and is currently under contract. The buyer’s name is not being disclosed at this time, but the listing agent said it’s a “well respected company.”

Silver Sands Resort

The Silver Sands Resort property is located on the bay side of Estero Boulevard, just north of the 7-Eleven. Some parts of the structure date back to the 1960s, although the majority of the resort was established in 1983. Due to new FEMA codes, the resort will not be permitted to rebuild without undergoing major changes. For this reason, the owners decided to sell.

Silver Sands Resort just closed at $7.1 million. The buyer was TPI Hospitality–the owner and developer of the new Margaritaville Resort.

Outrigger Beach Resort

The Outrigger Beach Resort is located towards the south end of Fort Myers Beach. Portions of the building date back to the early 1980s, but the majority of the structure is much newer. The tiki bar washed away during the storm, and a large portion of the hotel was severely damaged.

This landmark hotel is currently under contract for a rumored $37 million. The actual sale price will not be published until the sale closes, however.
